Deputy Chief Scott F. Torre

Deputy Chief Torre began his career with the New Providence Police Department in 1983. During his career he has served in many capacities within the Police Department, including Patrolman, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and Deputy Chief.

Before becoming a police officer, he graduated from Saint Leo University with a Bachelors Degree in Criminology. In 2002, he completed his Masters Degree in Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He graduated from the 213th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico VA. in 2003. He is also a Certified Public Manager, Certified Eligible Chief Law Enforcement Officer, Certified Community Policing Officer and graduated from the New Jersey Police Executive Institute.

Deputy Chief Torre initiated the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program for the New Providence School System in 1993. He is a Police Training Commission certified firearms instructor. He has served with the Essex/Union Auto Theft Tasks Force, was a past State Delegate for New Providence PBA, Local #132. He serves on the New Providence Municipal Alliance and the New Providence Cultural Diversity Task Force.

As Deputy Chief, he oversees the day-to-day operations of the police department. He is also responsible for the research and development of policy and procedures as well as coordinating all training for the police department. He also is the Commander of the Detective Bureau and oversees all investigations and traffic matters. His administrative duties include overseeing the Accreditation and Professional Standards for the department.
