Chief Anthony D. Buccelli
Anthony D. Buccelli, Jr. was appointed as the sixth Chief of Police in New Providence Police history on January 4th, 2006. Chief Buccelli began his career in February 1980. Over his career he has served in every capacity within the department including, Patrolman, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief and Chief.
Chief Buccelli graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. He attended the 194th session of the FBI National Academy. He also graduated from Penn State Police Executive Program, N.J. Police Executive Institute, and New Mexico Tech. Explosive Awareness. He holds certifications from State of NJ Certified Public Manager, Law Enforcement Executive, and Certified New Jersey Chief’s of Police Accreditation Assessor. He is a Police Training Commission Certified Instructor at the John H. Stamler Police Academy in Firearms and is currently instructing Police Recruits, Special, Auxiliary and In-service officers in the area of Domestic Violence. Chief Buccelli serves as Accreditation Manager for the New Providence Police Department and a New Jersey State Chief’s of Police Accreditation Team Leader. Chief Buccelli was also instrumental in the creation and implementation of the Northern Union County Domestic Violence Response Team.
As the Chief of Police in New Providence, I take great pride in the quality of our officers and the service we provide to our community. I am very proud of our community policing initiatives such as D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), P.A.T.T. (Police and Teens Together), New Providence Senior Citizen Liaison Program, Crime Prevention and Neighborhood Watch.
