New Providence Recreation offers adult fitness and enrichment classes in 11-week sessions.  Refer to your email registration receipt for exact class dates. Register online or in person at the Recreation Office located in the Municipal Center at 360 Elkwood Avenue.  Download a flyer with schedule with class descriptions.

  • Fall session: September 7, 2010–November 24, 2010 (Registration opens August 16, 2010).  
  • Winter Session: November 29, 2010—February 28, 2011. (Registration opens October 4, 2010).
  • Spring Session: March 7-May 20, 2011. (Registration opens January 31, 2011)

  Program Descriptions:

BARRE SCULPT: A total body workout resulting in core strength and long, lean, strong muscles! Increase energy and have fun while sculpting your body! Instructor: LaRonda Gumm. Wednesdays 10:00-11:00AM. $70. Location: Municipal Center, room G-2.

BODY BLAST BOOT CAMP: A high-intensity workout outdoors (weather permitting) in the fall, indoors in the winter designed to zap the fat, increase metabolism and energy level, sculpt and tone your body, and leave you feeling fabulous and fit while having fun.  Hugely popular! Instructor: Beth Rankin. Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays. 6:00-7:00AM. $60. Location: Lieder Field at NPHS in spring. Rain and winter location: Municipal Center Gym.

BODY SHAPING: Total body workout focused on cardiovascular and strengthening exercises. Low-impact. Instructor: Mike Czech. Tuesdays or Thursdays. 7:00-8:00PM. $60. Location: Municipal Center Gym.

CARDIO COMBO: Total body workout focused on cardiovascular and strengthening exercises. Take more than one class to mix up your workout routine with our talented instructors.  Mondays with Beth Rankin, Wednesdays with Joanne Nordgren or Fridays with Eduardo Zuniga. 9:00-10:00AM. $60. Take all 3 days for $140.  Location: Municipal Center Gym.

CARDIO CHALLENGE: Boxing punches, karate kicks, aerobic movements, and various agility exercises designed to boost your energy levels, tone up your muscles, improve your cardio pulmonary system. Instructor: Beth Rankin. Wednesdays. 7:30-8:30PM. $60. Location: Municipal Center Gym.

MOVE & STRETCH AWAY STRESS: MAt the end of your workday, put on sneakers and comfy clothes and join us in the Municipal Gym. Each week's class will incorporate stretching, low impact exercise and movement set to great music! Instructor: Joanne Nordgren. Mondays. 4:45-5:45PM. $60. Location: Municipal Center Gym.

DRAWING AND PAINTING: Individual attention is given to students in a small group setting. Emphasis is on developing skills and exploring basic techniques in drawing and/or painting.  A variety of media will be used such as colored pencils, charcoal, pastel, watercolors and acrylics.  Students are encouraged to pursue their individual interests and develop their own visual language. Demonstrations and critiques will be given. (Materials included.) Instructor: Marjan Nirou Saniee. Wednesdays 10:30AM-12:30PM or Thursdays 7:00-9:00PM. $175. Location: Municipal Center Art Room.

TENNIS: All levels: beginner, advanced beginner and intermediate. Class will enhance fundamentals with a focus on doubles strategy.  Instruction by First Play Tennis. Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:30-8:00PM. 8 classes per session beginning in September and April. $153. Location: Municipal Tennis Courts.

YOGA: Breathe, stretch, relax! Let stress and tension melt away as you stretch and strengthen your body and relax your mind. Bring your own mat and a large towel for relaxation.  Instructor: LaRonda Gumm. Level 1:  Tuesdays or Wednesdays 6:00-7:00PM; Level 2: Tuesdays or Wednesdays 7:00-8:00PM; Level 3: Wednesdays 9:00-10:00AM or 8:00-9:00PM. $70. Location: Municipal Center, room G-2

MEN’S PICKUP BASKETBALL: Location: Municipal Center Gym. NOTE: Participants are required to fill out a release form annually. Starting in the 2010-11 use online registration to fill out release. Ages 50+: Thursdays 4:30-6:00PM; Ages 40+: Thursdays 8:00-10:00PM; Ages 30+: Wednesdays 8:30-10:30PM; Ages 18-30: Tuesdays 8:30-10:30PM.
