New Providence Recreation offers adult fitness and enrichment classes in 11-week sessions. Refer to your email registration receipt for exact class dates. Register online or in person at the Recreation Office located in the Municipal Center at 360 Elkwood Avenue. Download the 2012-13 Recreation Programs Book for schedule and class descriptions.
- Fall session: September 4, 2012 - November 19, 2012 (Registration opens August 22, 2012).
- Winter Session: November 26, 2012 - February 25, 2013 (Registration opens October 2, 2012).
- Spring Session: March 4, 2013 - May 17, 2013 (Registration opens February 4, 2013)
PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS:
BARRE SCULPT: A total body workout resulting in core strength and long, lean, strong muscles! Increase energy and have fun while sculpting your body! Instructor: LaRonda Gumm.
BODY BLAST BOOT CAMP: A high-intensity workout outdoors (weather permitting) in the fall, indoors in the winter designed to zap the fat, increase metabolism and energy level, sculpt and tone your body, and leave you feeling fabulous and fit while having fun. Hugely popular! Instructor: Beth Rankin.
BODY SHAPING: Total body workout focused on cardiovascular and strengthening exercises. Low-impact. Instructor: Mike Czech.
CARDIO COMBO: Total body workout focused on cardiovascular and strengthening exercises. Take more than one class to mix up your workout ro utine with our talented instructors.
ADULT JAZZ: A class for all levels. Enjoy one of the most popular forms of dance. Class begins with a thorough warmup of isolation exercises and stretching. Acrossthe floor exercises and center combination at the end of class. Lengthen and tone your muscles, improve posture, and enhance balance. An entire body work out while tapping into the inner dancer in you! Instructor: Jessica Lombardi.
DRAWING AND PAINTING: Individual attention is given to students in a small group setting. Emphasis is on developing skills and exploring basic techniques in drawing and/or painting. A variety of media will be used such as colored pencils, charcoal, pastel, watercolors and acrylics. Students are encouraged to pursue their individual interests and develop their own visual language. Demonstrations and critiques will be given. (Materials included) Instructor: Marjan Nirou Saniee.
YOGA: Breathe, stretch, relax! Let stress and tension melt away as you stretch and strengthen your body and relax your mind. Bring your own mat and a large towel for relaxation. Instructor: LaRonda Gumm.
WOMEN'S OPEN GYM VOLLEYBALL: Fun, informal play for women 18 and older. No fee for residents, but registration is required; $10 fee for out-of-town residents. Facilitator: Ellen Law.
MEN’S PICKUP BASKETBALL: Location: Municipal Center Gym. NOTE: Participants are required to fill out a release form annually. Starting in the 2010-11 use online registration to fill out release. Ages 50+: Thursdays 4:30-6:00PM; Ages 40+: Thursdays 8:00-10:00PM; Ages 30+: Wednesdays 8:30-10:30PM; Ages 18-30: Tuesdays 8:30-10:30PM.
