Makes recommendations to the governing body and executes new ideas for the Borough’s ambiance, character and appearance. This includes, but is not limited to improving parks, new sidewalks and crosswalks, lamp-posts, decorations, etc.
Reviews the current TV franchise contract, that the Borough entered into in December 1998. The terms of the contract allow for a review, conducted by the Borough, during the fifth contractual year. This review will take no longer than six months to complete, and will entail a comprehensive evaluation of Comcast’s compliance to the terms of the contract. The committee will issue a report to the Mayor and governing body on their findings, including recommendations and an overall assessment.

Coordinates the services of emergency response and resources between Police, Fire Department, Rescue Squad and other agencies, when applicable.
Reviews existing insurance plans and policies of the Borough, as well as coverage levels, as well as assisting with renewal and pricing negotiations.
The New Providence Municipal Alliance Committee is comprised of members of the community, volunteering their time as interested parents, teachers, police officers or business people, working to improve the lives of our neighbors and friends by preventing alcohol and drug abuse. To advise the Mayor and Council on the preservation, acquisition and optimal
use of open space and open space funds for the benefit of the residents of
the Borough of New Providence.
This Committee was created as an adjunct to the work of the Economic Development Committee (EDC). The EDC's primary goal is to encourage and support existing and new business growth and employment opportunities in the Borough. The Music and Arts Festival Committee was created to explore and implement an annual New Providence Music & Art Festival, to be held in the Borough. In addition, the Committee's goals are to encourage corporate partnerships and sponsorships, to provide additional cultural events for residents, and to expand the customer base for our Borough businesses.
The goal of this committee is to develop a comprehensive long-range plan evaluating current and future facilities to meet the demands of a reasonably balanced recreational program. The key short term objectives are to evaluate usage of all existing facilities; ascertain the types of programs needing additional facility usage; determine adequacy of existing facilities to incrementally accommodate additional programs and evaluate expansion potential at all existing Borough and School owned facilities requiring only minor modifications. Long term objectives include providing recommendations to better utilize existing facilities; preparing capital improvement plan to maintain integrity of existing facilities; developing long range plan for “resting” all field-sport facilities; evaluating connections between major facilities and park and conservation areas; evaluating expansion potential at all existing Borough and School owned facilities requiring major modifications and evaluating inventory of all County, Borough and School owned vacant land for suitability for development into recreational facilities.
Under the Community Developement Act of 1974, an annual grant is received by Union County from HUD and distributed by the Union County Community Developement Revenue Sharing Committee, (which consists of five sub committees) in accordance with HUD Regulations. New Providence has two members and two alternates on two of those committees.
The Information Technology Committee is an advisory committee composed of volunteers knowledgable in the various aspects of information technology. The field of information technology includes computer equipment, computer networks, software, and communications including telephony systems and wireless communications systems. The Committee provides advice to Borough Council and the administration regarding any matters in these fields that may come before them.
Creates, supports and encourages programs promoting public interest and participation in local arts, history and culture to benefit all residents. Also works with a number of agencies and organizations to educate the public on local, state and municipal efforts to preserve historic sites, and maintains an historic sites inventory as a resource for federal and state agencies and local planners.
The Stormwater Advisory Committee consists of six members. Their purpose is to determine and recommend how best to implement Stormwater Management Regulations enacted by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP).
New Providence has two members on the Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC). Their function is to represent Mayor and Council, keeping them advised and to participate and guard against proposed legislative changes by the Union County Utilities Authority (UCUA) or State, that would increase solid waste disposal costs.
