The success of New Providence’s Recreation Activities is its volunteers. Hundreds of volunteers annually step forward to share responsibilities. Some have more time than others to take on full responsibility of an activity, while others may only have time for assisting. However much time you have to give, please do not hesitate to step up and become involved!
This is a wonderful opportunity to share your time with your child and other activity participants. It is also a great way to network with other coaches, assistants, and parents. Of course, knowing a bit about the activity is a benefit, but we will take the inexperienced. There is normally another “seasoned” volunteer to help in the learning process. That is what we are about!
Coach and Assistant meetings are held prior to the start of each season to discuss expectations, rules, team placements, equipment, etc.
Also offered to all Coaches and Assistants is the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic. In 1986, New Jersey became the first state to pass a civil immunity law for volunteer coaches. Commonly referred to as the Little League Law, this legislation extends partial civil immunity to volunteer coaches who have attended a "safety orientation and training skills program." The Rutgers Clinic helps coaches minimize the risk of injury to young athletes, provides information about fundamental coaching concepts, which enhances volunteer coach's effectiveness and protects volunteer coaches from civil lawsuits.
Throughout the year, New Providence Recreation and the Borough organize community events with varying degrees of needs in terms of volunteers. Let us know if you would like to be a part of the 5K Race, 4 th of July Celebration, Drive-In Movie Night, etc. A current listing of volunteer opportunities is on our volunteer form. Please mail in volunteer form (click here for form). For Coaches and Assistants, please indicate on your child’s activity registration form your interest in coaching or assisting.
