The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders would like to remind you of several free recycling events coming up in August.
Union County will sponsor a Household Hazardous Waste Event on Satruday, August 3rd from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Union County Vo-Tech School located at 1776 Raritan Road in Scotch Plains. Items for drop off include old pesticides & herbicides, pool chemicals, gasoline, oil-based paints and deck stain. Latex Paint (wall paint) is not accepted. It should be dried out and discarded in with your regular garbage. The Union County Police will also be on hand to collect Ammunition and Fireworks at this event. Car Tires will also be collected at this event.
Our next Mobile Paper Shredding Event will take place on Saturday, August 10th at Kean University located at 1000 Morris Avenue in Union, in the parking lot adjacent to Green Lane. Union County will continue their Mobile Paper Shredding Program in September with events on Thursday, September 12th at the Linden Recycling Center, located at 2 Donaldson Place in Linden, and on Friday, September 20th at the Westfield Memorial Pool, located at 713 Cumberland Street in Westfield. All events will run from 9 am to 1 pm or until the truck(s) get filled and there is a limit of four (4) bags or boxes of confidential documents per car. Please do not bring material that is already shredded.
Union County’s Scrap Metal Recycling program also continues in August. This month the First Thursday collection on Thursday, August 1st, and the Third Saturday collection will be on Saturday, August 17th. There are two (2) locations in Union County for residents to drop off their metal for recycling, one in Cranford and Rahway. All locations will be open from 9 am to 12 pm. Residents can drop off old appliances, microwaves, air conditioners, and metal lawn furniture to name a few.
