Ten new cases were reported in New Providence, for a total of thirty-two cases since the onset. Although concerning, this rise was somewhat expected due to increased testing. Six are fully recovered. We hope to report more recoveries shortly and wish all a speedy recovery. We will continue to update you as we obtain more information. Please continue following all protocols including continuing to shelter in, no non-essential outings, strict social distancing, and frequent vigorous hand washing. The Union County COVID-19 Test Center at Kean University has implemented a “telehealth” procedure for persons seeking a COVID-19 test. Union County residents, as well as all first responders and health workers working in the county regardless of residence, can report symptoms and schedule testing by calling (908) 373-5105.

While sheltering in, try to keep busy, and focus on all the positive. This is a good time to work on our homes and begin yard clean-up (grass and brush pick up begins Monday April 6th). The Borough began work on our new Harmony Park adjacent to Veterans Park on South Street. Harmony Park will be filled with hands on, large, interactive musical instruments.

This wonderful new addition to our community is something fun we can all enjoy looking forward to. Harmony Park was made possible by the matching funds from the Union County Recreation Trust Fund.

There are multiple groups, organizations, and volunteers contributing tirelessly to our community including making masks, helping with necessary errands, donating much needed supplies, and providing assistance and emotional support. We are so grateful for the outpouring of support and generous contributions to our community. Thank you! Our Pioneer Spirit is really shining!

Beautiful chalk pictures are popping up all around town, with uplifting messages, and some residents and neighborhoods have begun to put up lights, balloons, and decorations to show support, and illuminate our spirits. It has been especially nice to see!

Please continue to check on each other especially our most vulnerable and our seniors. Our police, fire, rescue squad, and emergency management team are prepared and ready to help in any situation. We are grateful for their tireless commitment to our community and thank them for their dedicated service to New Providence. We will get through this together. Pioneer Strong!
