We were sad to learn that we lost another resident today and we have one more new case. Please take a moment to say a prayer for them, for their families, for everyone still battling this virus and for their families, for all of our healthcare workers, first responders, essential personnel, and for our community. In solidarity and in support of them, and in remembrance of our lost, please join us in putting a light(s) in your windows or outdoors to light up our neighborhoods through this crisis in the fight against COVID19.
Happy Earth Day! I am not sure how overall “happy” the Earth is today especially during these challenging times, but reports around the world of less air pollution is a good thing and that is something to be happy about. We have recently been experiencing some of the lowest atmospheric nitrogen dioxide levels ever in our state in recent history. Perhaps one of the many lessons learned during this crisis is becoming more aware, more mindful, taking more personal responsibility, and better care of the world around us. My wish, my hope for us all is that we each grow from this experience more self aware, stronger, better, wiser, and recognize the importance of personal responsibility, and the responsibility each of us has to do our part.
We have more “Good Things Happening in NP” to report. To date Our Lady of Peace (OLP) has collected over 4000 sandwiches to continue supporting the homeless at St John’s Soup Kitchen and St Joseph’s SK in Elizabeth. Many of the soup kitchens have closed but the few that remain open need food or donations. If you would like to contribute please visit https://www.njsk.org. May 25 – Memorial Day Parade – Cancelled – Now a Video Parade For the first time in more than 65 years, there will be no parade down Springfield Avenue in New Providence on Memorial Day.
The parade has been a mainstay in the community, rain or shine dating back to 1954. The decision to cancel this year’s Memorial Day parade was made with a heavy heart in light of the continuing threat to our community from the COVID-19 pandemic.
In cooperation with American Legion Post #433, the Borough of New Providence will be putting together a video of past parades as a way of properly saying thank you to all of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We are interested in collecting any past New Providence Memorial Day pictures you may have between 1954 and 2019 to be included in the video. Photos can be of any aspect of the parade; community groups, marching band, military, wreath laying ceremonies, etc.
