RAIN GARDENS OF UNION COUNTY iNATURALIST PROJECT

The iNaturalist project was started a few years ago by the Environmental Stewards Program of the Rutgers Cooperative Extension. Its purpose is to engage residents of Union County to learn more about the benefits of rain gardens, while also engaging them in the iNaturalist app and online citizen science community in order to visit rain gardens throughout the county and document the biodiversity that can be found there. Rain gardens are constructed using native plants that are adept at assisting with stormwater management. As a bonus, they attract and support a wide variety of native pollinators, birds, and other species. Rain gardens are beautiful options for folks who want to manage stormwater on their own properties using native plants, while also supporting pollinators and biodiversity.
