2018 COMMUNITY EVENTS:
Easter Egg Hunt (Pre-K – 2nd Grade): Sponsored by the New Providence Lions Club, this annual event takes place rain or shine on Saturday, March 24 at Oakwood Park, 1 Roessner Place (off Woodbine Circle). The Easter Bunny arrives at 9:15 am and the hunt begins at 9:30 am.
Memorial Day Parade: Join us on Monday, May 28, 2018 as New Providence remembers the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving in this country’s armed forces. The parade kicks off at 10:00am along Springfield Avenue between Central Avenue and Academy Street. After the parade, American Legion Post #433 (next to the library) and the DeCorso Community Center (15 East 4th Street) invite everyone for Hot Dogs and light refreshments.
Fishing Derby: On Saturday, April 28, Bring your rod, reel & bait and catch trout of varying sizes stocked in the pond at Oakwood Park. Prizes will be awarded to the lucky fishermen who catch one of the 6 monstrous lunkers!Co-Sponsored by New Providence P.B.A. Local #132 and New Providence Recreation.
Sharing Network 5K: NJ Sharing Network’s Annual 5K Celebration of Life, June 3, 2018, brings together thousands of walkers, runners and volunteers to honor those who gave, pay tribute to those who received, offer hope to those who continue to wait and remember the lives lost while waiting.
Independence Day Celebration: On Tuesday, July 3, 2018, festivities will take place on South Street. Fireworks launch at 9:30pm.
Summer Family Concerts: Enjoy shows beginning at 6:30pm on Thursday nights in July at Centennial Park (Springfield Ave. and Academy St.).
National Night Out: Sponsored by New Providence PBA Local 132, this event is Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018 at Centennial Park (Springfield Ave. and Academy St.)
Downtown Trick-Or-Treating: Trick or Treat with local businesses will be held in downtown New Providence on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 1:00-3:00pm. Wear your costumes and look for the stores with an orange pumpkin in the window or on the door! This event is Rain or Shine.
Street Fair: On Sunday, October 28, 2018. The fair, sponsored by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders and New Providence Business, will be held on Springfield Avenue, between South Street and Livingston Avenue.
Scarecrow Contest: Be a part of the Scarecrow Stroll through Downtown New Providence!! Create your own unique family-friendly scarecrow or a scarecrow representing your organization, sport, or business. It can be wild, funny, furry, silly, or ridiculous. Use your imagination!! FREE to enter but space is limited! This is your chance to express yourself, your organization, or business! Scarecrows will be on display from October 13-November 2.
Holiday Festival: Kick of the Holiday on Friday, Nov. 23 & 24. Come watch Santa arrive in town with a parade led by the NPHS Pioneer Band and the NPFD. The fun begins at 4:30pm and Santa arrives at 6:00pm at Provident Bank on South Street.
