Chief Anthony D. Buccelli
Anthony D. Buccelli, Jr. was appointed as the sixth Chief of Police in New Providence Police history on January 4th, 2006. Chief Buccelli began his career in February 1980. Over his career he has served in every capacity within the department including, Patrolman, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief and Chief.
Chief Buccelli graduated with honors from Rutgers University with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. He attended the 194th session of the FBI National Academy. He also graduated from Penn State Police Executive Program, N.J. Police Executive Institute, and New Mexico Tech. Explosive Awareness. He holds certifications from State of NJ Certified Public Manager, NJ Certified Law Enforcement Executive, and Certified New Jersey Chief’s of Police Accreditation Assessor. He is a Certified State Chief’s of Police Accreditation Team Leader. Chief Buccelli was also responsible for the creation and implementation of the Northern Union County Domestic Violence Response Team. Chief Buccelli has served as President of the Union County Police Chiefs Association in 2011. He is currently an Executive Board Member of the Association and serves as the Superintendent to the John H. Stamler Police Academy in Union County.
Chief Buccelli is the Municipal Emergency Management Coordinator for the Borough of New Providence, and has served in that capacity for 17 years.
As the Chief of Police in New Providence for the past ten years, I take great pride in the quality of our officers and the service we provide to our community. I am very proud of the community policing initiatives we participate in. Community Relations and service to the community are of the utmost importance to the men and women of the New Providence Police Department.
